Marton
Most of your Kiwi beer starts here.
Home to one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s major malt houses, Marton has long been tied to the good stuff: fertile farmland, practical know-how and the kind of local industry that quietly keeps the country ticking. Add heritage streets, creative locals, independent shops and a strong community spirit, and you’ve got a town worth looking twice at.
Settled in the mid-1860s and originally called Tūtaenui, the town was renamed Marton in 1869 - after the birthplace of Captain James Cook, and is the largest town in our district.
Here locals celebrate the local produce, arts and crafts with two annual festivals each year. Be sure not to miss Marton Market Day and Marton Harvest Festival.
Marton is known for:
- Award-winning Te Ahuru Mowai Playground
- Tūtaenui Reservoir
- Victorian-era and Art Deco architecture
Stop for coffee, browse the shops, meet the locals and see why Marton has more going on than first meets the eye.
