Camping

Canvas walls. Million-star views.

If your idea of a good night's stay involves a tent, campervan or caravan, you'll feel right at home in Rangitīkei.

Our camping spots tend to come with the things that matter: Rivers, swimming holes, plenty of grass, big skies and room to spread out. You'll find places to pitch up beside the Rangitīkei River, peaceful lakeside camps, holiday parks close to town and simple country camping spots where the surroundings are very much the main attraction.

Find your kind of camping

Set up camp at Vinegar Hill and spend summer days swimming in the Rangitīkei River. Find a spot beside the water at Dudding Lake, or make yourself at home at one of the campgrounds and holiday parks around Mangaweka, Taihape and the wider district.

Travelling with the motorhome or caravan? We're made for that too. Rangitīkei is a Motorhome Friendly District and has a relationship with the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association (NZMCA).

Keep it real. Keep it tidy. If you're freedom camping, please check where you can stay before setting up for the night. Respect private property and leave your spot as you found it.

Once you're away from the lights of the bigger centres, remember to look up.

Our wide-open rural skies can put on a pretty good show after dark!
