Marton Historic Village
See what life was like for the Settlers of Marton!
Marton Historic Village is a collection of Early Settler Museum Buildings located in central Marton at 397 Wellington Road.
The village includes Captain Cook Pioneer Memorial Cottage, the historical Marton Gaol-come-General Store and Snellgrove Barn, an 1850s furniture factory housing an 1860s Wagon used in service in WW1. All buildings include historical items such as Edwardian and Victorian furniture, appliances, war relics and other mementos which give a glimpse into times past and a picture of local history. The Village is run by a group of enthusiastic local volunteers.
Marton Historic Village is open for viewing on request – contact martonhist@gmail.com.
There is plenty of parking on-road or behind the neighbouring War Memorial Hall. Public toilets are found next door at Te Āhuru Mōwai Playground. There are cafes, supermarkets and other amenities within walking distance.
