From 10 minute ambles to overnight tramps, Rangitīkei offers a wide range of reserves and parks for you to explore.
We have trails great for bird watching, hiking and running – many are pram friendly too. Dogs are also welcome in sign posted areas.
There are stunning giant papa cliffs and native critically endangered podocarp forests including Tōtara, Mātai and Kahikatea to view. Traditional Māori storage pits to see and many native forest species include over 100-year-old Kānuka.

- Hihitahi Forest Sanctuary, Taihape
- McPherson’s Reserve, Turakina Valley Road
