Perched above the Rangitīkei River and surrounded by spectacular scenery, Mangaweka is full of surprises – if you know where to look.
For a place with a population you could fit into a small grandstand, Mangaweka packs a surprising amount of personality. Pull off SH1 and you'll find great coffee, quirky charm and one of the best views in Rangitīkei.
The historic Mangaweka Bridge, (nearby just of SH1) was built in 1904 and is noted for being the first and only steel cantilever road bridge constructed in New Zealand.
